In order to serve God, you must first believe that he exists. Once you are convinced that he "is" you must understand that he cares for those who diligently seek him. A person who believes that God "is" and God "cares" can put his trust or "faith" in God. So how do we start? First you can know that God is by opening your eyes. Can a tornado ever build a 747 aircraft. In the same way no series of chance events ever created the intricate, colorful world in which you live. Even if chance could explain "how" we came to be (and it doesn't) it can never explain the fact that we "are" in the first place. God is the best "scientific" explanation. Remember that the "Theory of evolution" is just a theory. No one has seen it happen or can even predict how it might happen in real terms. (My daughter pointed out that it isn't even a proper theory because it can not be tested -- you have to accept it by faith!) The complexities against an eye poping out of the side of your head and actually "seeing" are staggering. What was it doing all those billions of years before it blinked for the first time? Did it have no "evolutionary" benefit for all that time? Why don't we have all sorts of "evolving" appendages hanging off our bodies? According to evolution, the earth should look like a bad star wars movie. As it is there is NO proof, only evidence that all life derived from a single source. God is a perfectly good theoretical source. At least God can grant life. With evolution you just die. In objective terms, both belief systems are "religious" convictions. All things being equal, God is more probable. Second, God did not make you for nothing. You can know that God cares by opening you Bible and reading how he has cared for his people in the past. The Jews (Israel) were chosen by God as a special people. They were separated from the other peoples of the earth as "priests" to the nations. Their task was to be a "light" drawing the nations to God. All the earth belongs to the Lord and he loves all mankind, not just the Jews. This has always been the case. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Through the scriptures, God has given us a heritage and a future. By faith (trust) we become sons and daughters of the the God of heaven. We can trust God because he raised his son, Jesus (Yashua), from the dead. If we believe this and live accordingly, God has promised that we have the same hope. The believer has confidence in God's promise of a resurrection from the dead and eternal life with God. God "IS" and he cares deeply for his children who are "born again" by repenting of sin and placing their trust in God.
